General Description

Montezuma Megaways is a vibrant and dynamic slot machine that transports players to the impenetrable jungles of South America, where ancient temples and untold riches are hidden. The slot's visual design is of a high standard: detailed symbols, animated elements, and background music create full immersion in the atmosphere of the Aztec Empire. The main game field consists of 6 vertical reels, each of which can contain from 2 to 7 symbols. Above the middle reels (2nd to 5th) is an additional horizontal reel, which adds one more symbol to each of these reels. This, combined with the Megaways mechanic, allows for up to 117,649 ways to win on each spin!

Mechanics and RTP

Montezuma Megaways runs on the innovative Megaways mechanic, licensed from Big Time Gaming. This means that the number of symbols on each reel changes randomly with each spin, creating thousands of potential winning combinations. The minimum number of ways to win is 324, and the maximum is 117,649. Winning combinations are formed by landing identical symbols on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost. After each win, the "Avalanche" feature is activated: winning symbols disappear, and new ones fall into their place, which can lead to the formation of new winning combinations within a single spin. This feature continues until no new wins are formed.

• RTP (Retu to Player): 96.17%
• Volatility: High
• Paylines: Up to 117,649 (Megaways)
• Minimum Bet: Varies by casino
• Maximum Bet: Varies by casino

Symbols

The symbols in the game are themed around Aztec culture and are divided into low-paying and high-paying:

• Low-paying symbols: Card ranks from 9 to Ace, stylized as ancient writings.
• High-paying symbols: Various Aztec artifacts, birds, snakes, a chieftain, and, of course, Montezuma himself – the highest-paying symbol.
• Wild symbol: Image of a temple. Substitutes for all regular symbols to create winning combinations. Appears only on the horizontal reel.
• Scatter symbol: Image of an Aztec shield. Activates the free spins bonus round.

Bonus Features

Montezuma Megaways is rich in bonus features that make the gameplay even more exciting and potentially profitable:

Cascades (Avalanche/Cascading Reels)

After each win, the symbols involved in the combination disappear, and new ones fall into their place. This allows for multiple wins from a single spin and is the basis for activating the multiplier in free spins.

Free Spins

To activate the free spins round, you need to collect 3 or more Scatter symbols (shield) anywhere on the reels. Before the free spins begin, a Wheel of Fortune will appear, which will determine the number of free spins (from 5 to 30). During free spins, each cascade increases the win multiplier by x1, and this multiplier does not reset between spins! This can lead to very large payouts. In addition, a mini-wheel appears above the reels, which can award additional free spins or increase the multiplier.

Montezuma Respins

This feature can be activated at the end of any winning spin in the base game or during free spins. If there are no winning combinations left on the reels but there is potential to create them, the Montezuma Respins feature may trigger, holding some symbols and re-spinning the others to give another chance to win.

Buy Bonus

For those who don't want to wait for scatters to appear, there is a bonus buy feature. For a certain amount (usually 80-100 times the current bet), you can instantly trigger the free spins round. This is a great option for players who prefer dynamic gameplay and quick access to the most profitable features.

Multiplier

In the base game, the multiplier is inactive, but during free spins, it plays a key role. Each consecutive cascade increases the multiplier by +1, and it remains throughout the bonus round, opening the way to colossal wins.

Final Verdict

Montezuma Megaways is an excellent continuation of the classic slot, successfully combining nostalgia with mode innovations. The Megaways mechanic combined with cascading wins and a continuously increasing multiplier in free spins makes the gameplay incredibly dynamic and potentially very profitable. High volatility means that wins may not be frequent, but when they do happen, they can be impressive. Excellent graphics, atmospheric sound design, and a multitude of bonus features make Montezuma Megaways a must-try for all online slot enthusiasts. If you are ready to embark on a quest for Aztec treasures and are not afraid of high risk for big rewards, this slot is definitely worth your attention!
